Adobe Edge
Adobe Labs recently released its preview version of Adobe Edge. The application provides designers and developers with an easy-to-use interface for creating animation for the web, without having to use Flash. Animation effects are rendered without using HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript. The full version will be released soon but the preview offers full functionality.
CloudFlare
CloudFlare is a service that will speed up your website and protect it from security threats and hacking attempts. It works by taking over the DNS hosting on your website, caching common functions to speed up load time and redirecting malicious traffic. CloudFlare offers both free and paid options depending on the features that you need.
HelloFax
HelloFax is a great tool for filling out, signing, sending, and receiving documents. You can upload documents to HelloFax, fill them out, attach your signature, and send a fax through your email. You can also have people send you documents through the site. HelloFax gets rid of the need for faxes, scanners and expensive software.
Livescribe Echo Smartpen
The Livescribe Echo Smartpen has a built in speaker that produces rich, full sound to play back your recorded audio. You can transfer your notes and audio to your computer, and can also recharge the pen using a standard cable connection. The Smartpen holds 400 or 800 hours of recorded audio. (4GB and 8GB models available). It also has a replaceable ink tip.
Pingdom
Pingdom is a user-friendly tool that allows you to test the load time of your web pages. Just input a URL and Pingdom will download the entire page, including all elements (such as images, CSS files, etc.) and tell you which elements are taking the longest to download. Use Pingdom to optimize your web pages for the fastest possible download.
Sparrow
If you are a Mac user who prefers not to use a browser to check email, the default application is Mail. The problem most have is the bulk of it, it has too many features and it can be difficult to set up. If your email is powered by accounts such as Gmail, Yahoo or custom IMAP, you can download this incredibly lightweight application called Sparrow and be up and running in seconds. It is easy to scan through conversations, edit labels, and supports multiple accounts. Sparrow currently offers a free version and an inexpensive full version.
Adobe Shortcuts
With each version of Adobe Creative Suite, comes new and reassigned key commands. It can be tough trying to keep up with and relearn the shortcuts you are accustomed to. It appears the solution lies within your previous version, and Adobe has provided their users step-by-step instructions on their blog. By simply copying and pasting your old keyboard shortcuts from the older application into the new, you can seamlessly use the known commands.
Quicksilver
A computer mouse may be easy to use, but if you’re looking for speed, keystrokes are the way to go. Quicksilver by Blacktree is the quickest way to do your more simple tasks. With a keystroke you can open applications, copy and paste search words into a browser and even create a new email without ever touching your email program. Quicksilver is a free download for Mac users only; for Windows users, Skylight by CandyLabs is a good alternative.
BrowserLab
Need to do cross-browser testing, but do not want to bother with virtual machines or manage multiple computers? Check out Adobe BrowserLab, an online service that allows you to test public and private pages across multiple browsers and platforms.
If you are already using Firebug for HTML and CSS troubleshooting, download the BrowserLab for Firebug extension, which lets you test private pages that are not published on the Internet and sites behind HTTP authentication.
