Extend Your Browser: How to Use Firefox Extensions

Want to get more out of your browser?  Extensions for Mozilla Firefox are add-ons that provide new functionality for your browser and enhance your online experience.  Available features range from providing ad blocking support to allowing you to synchronize your bookmarks on multiple computers.  No matter what your tastes or preferences, there’s probably an extension out there for you. You can get your own customized browsing experience in just 3 easy steps.

Step 1: Download and install Mozilla Firefox

Firefox is readily available, and better yet, free!  You can download the latest version from Mozilla.com. Once downloaded, just run the setup file and it does the rest.

Step 2: Find an Extension that is right for you

You can do this two different ways:

  1. Open Firefox.  Under the “Tools” menu, select “Add-ons”.  Click on the “Get Extensions” link on the bottom right corner of the window.
  2. In your Firefox browser, enter the URL addons.mozilla.org/Firefox/extensions/.

Once there, you can find Extensions by category, popularity, most popular, or search by key word.

Step 3: Install it

After clicking on the Extension you want, there will be an “Install Now” link just below the extension. After you click on this link, a window will pop up to verify that you do in fact want to install the extension. Once you confirm, the extension will automatically be downloaded and installed.

Step 4: Restart your browser

I know,  I said 3 steps.  But this one is so easy it shouldn’t even count.  There’s even a “Restart Firefox” button on the dialog window after you’ve installed your extension.  Now stop complaining and enjoy your new extension already!
