Facebook Your Business
The Facebook craze hit businesses a long time ago and I’m just now writing about this topic. It’s long overdue but better late than never. Since Facebook has become such a big part of mainstream culture I figured it was about time I wrote about how you can use Facebook to help your marketing efforts.
What’s the difference between a business account and an individual account?
When individuals set up a Facebook account, they do so through a “profile”. When businesses set up a Facebook account, they do so through a “page”. A page works much like a profile but it’s geared for business use. Instead of “friends” businesses have “fans”, which work in pretty much the same way. Facebook pages also have a Wall where a business can post all sorts of things. You can also post photos and promote events through your Facebook page.
What’s a widget?
Facebook widgets are a helpful way to promote your page. Widgets are small applications that you can embed in your own Web site or blog. Three different types of widgets are available from Facebook. The Fanbox allows users to become your fan and view your Facebook wall from within your own Web site. The Live Stream Box allows Facebook users to post updates in real time and connect with other users. Finally, Page Badges allows you to simply share your Facebook page information on your Web site.
How do I use paid advertising with Facebook?
Another way to promote your Facebook page (and your business) is through paid advertising. Facebook offers a very customizable advertising engine that allows you to target very specific audience groups. Want all Democrats in Seattle under the age of 30? No problem. Facebook advertising offers advanced filtering so that your ads are only delivered to the exact audience you want to reach. You also only pay when someone clicks on your ad so the only money you put up is for something that actually works.
How do I get started?
Ready to Facebook your business? Signing up is easy. First, you have to create a personal profile or sign in with the one you already have. Then go here create your Facebook page.
Just having a page won’t make it successful. You must continually update your page with the latest information so that people will want to become a fan and will keep coming back. Don’t be afraid to invite people to become a fan. Search for your clients on Facebook and send them an invitation. The more fans you have, the more meaningful connections you can make. And this will result in getting your message out to the right audience on a consistent basis.
This article was overdue, but if you have yet to set up a Facebook page, you may be the one that has some catching up to do. If you think a Facebook page is a good way to connect with customers and enhance your marketing efforts then join the craze and Facebook your business.
